Description:

The Department of English at Fort Hays State University is seeking to fill graduate assistantship positions within its full time MA program. 

Each assistantship carries a full tuition remission (excluding fees) and a stipend of $7200 per year. Assistantship funding is renewable for another year based on performance and availability. 

Duties and Responsibilities:
Successful candidates will work as Graduate Assistants in the Writing Center, reporting to Dr Yerastov, Assistant Professor of Linguistics and Director of the Writing Center. 

Upon completion of the program, graduate students can apply to teach at our partner institution in China. 
As part of the MA in English, successful candidates will have an opportunity to pursue graduate coursework and a thesis in linguistics. 
Among the course offerings are:
- ENG 680: Introduction to Linguistic Science; 
- ENG 682: Traditional Grammar;
- ENG 683: History of the English Language; 
- ENG 685: Modern Grammar and Usage.
 
Graduate students who focus on Linguistics can receive supervision from Dr Yerastov in the following areas: 
- Construction Grammar; 
- Grammaticalization;
- Dialectology; 
- Corpus Linguistics; 
- Natural Language Processing (NLP). 

Requirements:
- bachelor's degree in English or Linguistics

Preferred qualifications:
- previous tutoring / teaching assistant experience
- experience with spreadsheets and Google Docs
