Description:

We need an expert to support an advanced computational linguistics program.
The goal of the program is to develop and demonstrate novel methods to build
speech recognition technology for a much larger set of languages than has
hitherto been addressed. It seeks innovations that enable the rapid
development of speech recognition technology for keyword search in any
language, working with speech recorded in a variety of conditions with limited
amounts of transcription. The program's technical measure of success is
focused on the effectiveness of keyword-based search of noisy channel speech
in a wide variety of less studied languages.

You will provide technical support and subject matter expertise in spoken
language and linguistics to support the Program. The skills required below
must be addressed by one person.

a) Master’s Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering,
Computational Linguistics, Natural Language Processing, or other related field
that provides background knowledge relevant to the Babel program with its
emphasis on speech recognition, language processing, and speech key
word/phrase search in a wide variety of languages

b) Familiarity with the range and characteristics linguistic diversity in
human languages

c) Working knowledge of issues related to collection and assembly of spoken
language corpora and spoken language evaluations (e.g., key word search,
speech recognition, channel conditions)

d) Data management skills

e) 3 or more years’ experience with program support in a research environment

f) Effective writing and communication skills in English
