 Dear LINGUIST List Subscribers:

My name is Ashley Parker, and I am a second-semester Masters student in
Indiana University’s Linguistics Department. This January, I was given the
incredible opportunity of a graduate assistantship as an editor at LINGUIST
List. In such a short amount of time, I’ve already had the privilege of
working with so many incredible scholars through my work with the Reviews Team
and postings for the Summer School and Media sections. I am very excited and
proud to be able to contribute to such an important community and work with
people from all around the world who share a common interest with me -
linguistics!

The LINGUIST List is an incredibly important resource for scholars of all
levels - even those just beginning. I received my BA in English in May of
2014. However, during my undergraduate studies, I caught the linguistics bug
and began working with my university’s one and only linguist, where my
linguistic curiosity continued to grow. Because my university did not have a
linguistics department, I turned to LINGUIST List to help immerse myself in
the community even more. Not only did its bounty of many different resources
help me learn more about the study of language, it was also a huge aid when it
came time for me to pick a program for graduate school. Without LINGUIST List,
it is very possible that I would have vastly different career aspirations. I
am immensely grateful not only for the support that it provides me now as I
work towards my degree, but also for all of the free and easily accessible
help that it provided me as a young undergraduate who was just starting to
learn.

I know that I am not the only one who feels this way about the services and
vast amount of resources that LINGUIST List offers. As you may know, LINGUIST
List relocated from Eastern Michigan University to Indiana University this
summer. Between our huge move and limited fund drives in recent years, we need
your support now more than ever. Your donations will not only help promote
studies in linguistics, but also make it possible for us to continue to serve
the entire linguistics community - including you! If you can, please consider
making a donation. Your contributions are vital and so very much appreciated.

Ashley Parker
