KALS Summer International Conference 2016

The Korean Association of Language Sciences (KALS) with a co-host, the Korean Association for Corpus Linguistics, schedules to hold KALS International Conference 2016 on August 18-19, 2016 at Pusan National University, Busan, South Korea, under a conference topic called “New Perspectives and Innovative Approaches to Language Sciences”. Five distinguished speakers are invited to present their ideas in the following five areas. Domestic and international scholars are welcome to participate and present in the conference. 

Keynote Speakers:

(1) Phonetics and Phonology: 
Stuart Davis (Indiana University at Bloomington), 
''Foot structure and blurred syllabification in American English''

(2) Morphology and Syntax: 
James P. Blevins (University of Cambridge)
''The morphosyntax of voice''

(3) Semantics and Pragmatics:
Young-Chel Chun (Seoul National University, Korean Department)
''Morphological markers for information structure in Korean'' 

(4) Socio-Linguistics and Corpus Linguistics: 
Tony McEnery (Lancaster University) 
''A large corpus of spoken learner English – the Trinity Lancaster Corpus''

(5) Language Education: 
Ruth A. Kaminski (University of Oregon) 
''The importance of formative assessment in English education''

Call for Papers:

Submissions are invited in any of the following linguistic topic areas:

(1) Phonetics and Phonology
(2) Morphology and Syntax
(3) Semantics and Pragmatics
(4) Socio-Linguistics and Corpus Linguistics 
(5) Language Education

Abstract Submission:

Anonymous abstracts written in English for 30-minute oral presentations should be submitted as email attachments in MS Word to Prof. Kyungchul Chang (Pusan National Univ.) at busan.abstract at gmail.com by February 29, 2016 with “ABSTRACT” stated as an email subject. The following information should also be provided in the body of the e-mail: 

- The title of the abstract
- The author’s or authors’ first name(s), family name(s), affiliation(s)
- Email address and contact (mobile) phone number
- Preferable presentation area in the above five areas
- Preferable presentation date and time

The abstract should consist of 200-250 words (main body) and 4-6 keywords, and not exceed two A4 pages including references. The format is 12 point Times New Roman font, single-lined, margins set to 2.54 cm (1 inch) all around. Presenters will be notified by March 10, 2016.

The Abridged Paper or Powerpoint(PPT) Slides Submission for Proceedings:

The at most 5-page abridged paper or ppt should be submitted by June 30, 2016. Further details for the submission will be notified in due course.  Excellent papers presented in the conference will be recommended for submission to an international journal, Journal of Language Sciences, quarterly published by the KALS.
