March 4-5, 2016

Call for Papers:

The Linguistics Graduate Program at Western University is pleased to invite submissions for the eighth annual Western Interdisciplinary Student Symposium on Language Research (WISSLR). It will be held March 4-5, 2016. 

In keeping with the interdisciplinary nature of the Master’s program at Western, we are pleased to invite students of all levels, and of all academic domains, to submit abstracts of original research on language. Topics may come from any number of disciplines, such as : Theoretical Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, Language Acquisition, Psycholinguistics, Communication Disorders, Natural Language Processing, Linguistic Anthropology, Linguistic Interfaces, Philosophy of Language, and any other field of inquiry that can be used to study language writ large.

The symposium will be held at Western University, in Ontario, on March 4-5;
however, those interested will be able to stream the conference live to the internet using Wimba technology. 

We also welcome submissions of papers to be presented remotely from other locations via the same means (all software is freely downloadable for conference participants).

This year WISSLR will also be including a poster session for the first time, so please submit your abstract using the guidelines below, and state whether you would like to be considered for a paper presentation, to be a part of the poster session, or both.

Each paper presentation will be 15 minutes in length, and 5 minutes to follow for questions and discussion. 

Students of all levels from undergrad to postdoc are encouraged to submit and participate. Works in progress are welcome too.

Guidelines:

- 1 page anonymized abstract as an attached document (your name should not appear in the document)
- Separate page for references
- Please include in the body of your email : your name, academic affiliation, email, title, whether you’d like to be considered for both paper and poster sessions, and any accessibility requests.

- Submit to wisslr.uwo at gmail.com

Deadlines:

- Submission deadline: Friday, January 1, 2016
- Notification of Committee’s decision: Friday, January 30, 2016

There are limited number of spots available for offsite presenters, so preference for remote presentations will be given to international candidates. Partial travel assistance may be available for some participants coming to London for this event.
