In 2014 the First Workshop on the Sound Systems of Mexico and Central America was held at Yale University for an international group of linguists to discuss the topics in phonetics and phonology of the indigenous languages of Mexico and Central America. The workshop contributed to the academic dialogue among the researchers working on these topics and further promoted new research on sound systems of the various languages which are spoken in these countries. In order to maintain and reinforce the academic dialogue among the specialists in this area, the Second Workshop on the Sound Systems of Mexico and Central America will take place in the Institute of the Anthropological Research and the Institute of the Philological Research at the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

The workshop will be in English and Spanish.

En 2014 el Primer Taller Sobre los Sistemas de Sonido de México y Centroamérica reunió en la Universidad de Yale a un grupo internacional de lingüistas para tratar temas relacionados con la fonética y fonología de las lenguas indígenas de México y Centroamérica. Contribuyó notablemente al diálogo académico entre investigadores especialistas en estos temas y promovió nuevas investigaciones sobre los sistemas de sonido de varias lenguas que se hablan en estos países. Con la intención de mantener y reforzar el diálogo académico entre especialistas y estudiosos de estos Sistemas Sonoros se realizará en el Instituto de Investigaciones Antropológicas y en el Instituto de Investigaciones Filológicas de la UNAM el Segundo Taller Sobre los Sistemas de Sonido de México y Centroamérica.

El inglés y el español serán los idiomas de trabajo del Taller.

Call for Papers/Convocatoria de Presentaciones: 

The Second Workshop on the Sound Systems of Mexico and Central America will bring together aninternational group of linguists to discuss topics in phonetics and phonology of the indigenous languages of Mexico and Central America.

We will accept abstracts for presentations of 20 minutes. Any presentation on the phonetics and/or phonology of an indigenous language of the region is welcomed. A preference will be given to the talks which offer an analysis or explanation (in any theoretical framework) for a concrete sound pattern.

The abstracts should be 2 pages in 12 point font, with one inch margins, including bibliography and examples. The deadline for submitting abstracts is December 10, 2015. The abstracts should be sent to the following e-mail address: SSMCAII at yahoo.com.mx.

The workshop will be in English and Spanish. Abstracts in either of these languages are welcomed.

We expect to notify the authors on the acceptance of their abstracts in mid-January, 2016. If there is enough interest, it is possible that we will accept additional abstracts for poster presentations during the workshop.

El Segundo Taller Sobre los Sistemas de Sonido de México y Centroamérica reunirá a un grupo internacional de lingüistas para tratar temas relacionados con la fonética y fonología de las lenguas indígenas de México y Centroamérica.

Se aceptan resúmenes para presentaciones de 20 minutos. Será bienvenida cualquier presentación sobre la fonética y/o la fonología de una lengua indígena de la región. Se dará preferencia a charlas que ofrezcan un análisis o explicación (desde cualquier marco teórico) a un patrón de sonido concreto.

Los resúmenes deberán ser de 2 páginas con letra de 12 puntos y márgenes de una pulgada, incluyendo la bibliografía y los ejemplos. El plazo para presentar resúmenes es el 10 de diciembre de 2015. Los resúmenes se deben enviar a la dirección electrónica siguiente: (SSMCAII at yahoo.com.mx)

El inglés y el español serán los idiomas de trabajo de la conferencia. Se aceptan resúmenes en ambas lenguas.Esperamos notificar a los autores sobre la aceptación de los resúmenes a mediados de enero. Si hay bastante interés, es posible que se acepten resúmenes adicionales para una sesión de carteles durante el taller.
