Description:

The EFL LabEx (Empirical Foundations of Linguistics) offers a 12-month post-doc position on "Automated Summarization of Multigraph Datasets from Abstractive Machine Reading".

Background: 

Machine reading performs typically extractive, open-domain and unsupervised information extraction from text. When applied in a Semantic Web context, it designs and represents the extracted knowledge as formal knowledge graphs that are linked to existing datasets, hence generating an abstractive variety of machine reading. An example of an implemented pipeline for Semantic Web Machine Reading (SWMR) is FRED. Within the Computational Semantic Analysis strand of the Labex EFL (Empirical Foundations of Linguistics) project, we want to extend SWMR towards "quasi-human" reading, dealing with high-level tasks such as multiple graph summarization, contextual grounding, deep type coercion, knowledge-based co-reference resolution, etc.).

Objective: 

The main objective of the postdoctoral candidate is to design and implement an extension of SWMR for multigraph dataset summarization, and evaluate it in a use case for context-sensitive SWMR.

Job description:

The postdoctoral research will concentrate on:

- Investigating how formal and statistical (e.g. deep learning) methods can be hybridized for extending SWMR
- Implementing the method by evolving the current SWMR pipelines existing at LIPN
- Testing/evaluating/refining the implemented method

Workplace:

The workplace is the LIPN computer science laboratory of Paris 13 University, in collaboration with other partners from the Labex EFL Project.

Reference persons in the project are Aldo Gangemi (scientific advisor), Davide Buscaldi, and Nadi Tomeh, all from the RCLN (Knowledge Representation and Natural Language) team of LIPN.

Required:

- Ph.D in computer science, computational linguistics, or similar. Ph.D students graduating in early 2016 can apply.
- Strong publication record
- Oral and written proficiency in English
- Competence in information extraction from text
- Competence in knowledge engineering, preferably with Semantic Web languages and technologies

Other valuable competences and skills:

- Semantic parsing
- Designing/implementing semantic technology applications
- Working with large graph datasets
- Multigraph mining
- Web programming
- Formal semantics of natural language
- Social skills, passion for research, and creativity
- Experience in international research projects
