Associate / Full Professor of English in Translation Studies

The University of Macau (UM) is a leading higher education institution in Macao, with English as its working language.

The Department of English of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites applications for the position of Associate or Full Professor of English in the following discipline:

Translation Studies

The Department of English is an expanding and lively scholarly community with a strong international profile comprising three main fields of interest: translation studies, literature and linguistics. In addition to its undergraduate Minor programme in Translation Studies, the department offers MA programmes in Translation Studies and in English Studies, as well as PhD supervision across the range of the department’s expertise. In translation the department has particular strengths in discourse/function-oriented, corpus-assisted and cognitive translation studies. The Faculty of Arts and Humanities has also established a Centre for Translation, Interpreting and Cognition Studies.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Translation Studies or another related area, teaching experience at tertiary institutions and a track record of quality research publications appropriate to the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Applicants for the position should demonstrate excellence in teaching and academic supervision, as well as a good record of research grant applications. Applications in all areas of Translation Studies will be considered, but those in the areas of Applied and/or Cognitive Translation Studies will be particularly welcome. It is expected that the successful candidate will specialize in Chinese-English translation, but expertise in other languages will also be considered. 

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in as early as August 2016.

Position and Remuneration

Remuneration and appointment rank offered will be competitive and commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification, current position and professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
