Description:

The Language Training Center (LTC) provides language and culture training to military partners, among them units of the US Army Special Operations Command at Ft. Bragg, the North Carolina National Guard, and the US Marine Corps at Camp LeJeune. The LTC is a grant project focusing primarily on serving the language training needs at Fort Bragg for the US Army Special Operations Command, providing intensive instruction in Arabic, Chinese, French, Korean, Portuguese, Persian, and Russian to Special Forces soldiers; developing new curriculum models integrating language, culture, and conflict resolution; providing in-class and distance language instruction, and conducting language immersions in the field. We conduct research and training to foster improvement in the quality and consistency of foreign language and culture training, social mediation, regional studies, and continuing education to our military partners.

The Project Director is responsible for research on models of more efficient learning, collates research efforts in this area from other sources, and adapts them to NCSU LTC program; intramural, interdepartmental, and interinstitutional collaboration and cooperation; organization of project activities; planning of pedagogical schemata of courses; hiring and training of staff; compliance with university, state, and federal policies; budget review; and reporting to funding agency. The Project Director will plan and direct the academic operations of the Language Training Center for the life of the present cycle of the grant (September 30, 2016) and write the application for the next 3 year cycle once the RFP is issued. Start date for this position is 1 January 2016.
 
The successful candidate will have a higher degree, preferably a PhD, in linguistics or second language acquisition or a related field and intimate knowledge and a vision for language pedagogy, as well as strong communication and administrative skills.
