Description:

To contribute to the CorCenCC* Welsh language corpus research project at the Centre for Language and Communication Research in the School of English, Communication and Philosophy at Cardiff University. To take a central role in the development of corpus software and applications. To contribute to project outputs and publications that will disseminate research findings to academic and community audiences. To pursue excellence in research and to inspire others to do the same. 

*Corpws Cenedlaethol Cymraeg Cyfoes (The National Corpus of Contemporary Welsh): A community driven approach to linguistic corpus construction
Research 

- To undertake research that will contribute to the specified aims of the CorCenCC project, with a focus on building the corpus and constructing the infrastructure to host it
- To develop tagsets and corpus coding tools for Welsh language data  
- To construct a crowdsourcing application for the collection of language data
- To create and implement database schemas that support business processes
- To co-construct a platform for the development and sharing of data-driven teaching resources   
- To undertake administrative tasks associated with the CorCenCC project, including the planning and organisation of the project and the implementation of procedures required to ensure accurate and timely reporting
- To attend to research ethics and research governance matters as relevant to the project 
- To review and synthesise existing research literature within the field
- To participate actively and collaboratively with the project team, ensuring the efficient communication of information, particularly across linguistic and computational activities (this post is based in the School of English, Communication and Philosophy but will also entail close collaboration with colleagues in the School of Computer Science and Informatics) 
- To build and create networks both internally and externally to the university, to influence decisions,  explore future research requirements, and share research ideas for the benefit of research projects

Other

- To undergo personal and professional development to enhance performance in areas appropriate to the role.
- To participate in School administration and activities to promote the School and its work to the wider University and the outside world by engaging effectively with commercial and public sector organisations, professional institutions and other academic institutions and to pursue opportunities for collaboration across a range of activities.
- Any other duties not included above, but consistent with the role.
