Methods in Linguistics: Workshops on Corpus-Based and Experimental Approaches and Phonetic Analysis / Amsterdam, Netherlands

Host Institution: Amsterdam Center for Language and Communication, University of Amsterdam
Coordinating Institution: University of Amsterdam
Website: http://www.isle-linguistics.org/summer_schools/summer_school_2016/

Dates: 13-Jun-2016 - 16-Jun-2016
Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands

Focus: The summer school focuses on the acquisition of methodological skills in three key areas (corpus-based analysis, experimental design, phonetic analysis with state-of-the art software PRAAT) in view of the growing demand in expertise in both corpus-based and experimental designs and the visualization and statistical analysis of linguistic data.

Minimum Education Level: MA

Description:
The emphasis will be on English linguistics, but is of interest to any early career linguist interested in acquiring new methodological skills. By keeping learner groups small (10-15), training in the summer school can also be fine-tuned to meet the specific needs of participants and to allow for effective practice. The modular structure of all courses – each proceeding from a basic level component on Day 1, through two advanced levels at Days 2 and 3 – permits participants to combine course elements from all three topic areas, enabling the selection of contents so as to fit the background and needs of individual participants.
