2nd Call for Papers:

The members of the research project Es.Var.Atenuación, the Val.Es.Co. research group, the Department of Spanish Philology and the Interuniversity Institute of Applied Modern Languages of Valencia (IULMA) of the University of Valencia, will hold their first International Conference on Linguistic Attenuation: Semantic and Pragmatic Perspectives between June 15th and June 18th, 2016. The conference responds to the organisers’ awareness of the necessity to share the latest research on linguistic variation in the use of attenuation. The conference aims to constitute a discussion forum for scholars, students and anyone interested in analysing linguistic attenuation from semantic or pragmatic perspectives.

We welcome contributions that shed light on phenomena associated to linguistic attenuation. Especially, we welcome studies that reveal formal and functional patterns of attenuation in a range of diatopic and diaphasic varieties of Spanish, more specifically:

- Vague language phenomena
- Aproximation mechanisms
- Phonic and prosodic phenomena related to attenuation
- Diatopic, diastratic and diaphasic variation in the use of attenuation
- Researching attenuation: methodological issues and solutions
- Linguistic phenomena in the attenuation-evidentiality interface
