The Arabic Linguistics Society and the Stony Brook University’s Department of Linguistics are pleased to announce the 30th Annual Symposium on Arabic Linguistics (ASAL) to be held at Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, New York March 31-April 3, 2016. ASAL will be held concurrently with the 46th Annual Linguistic Symposium on Romance Languages (LSRL) and with a joint Workshop on Arabic and Romance Linguistics (Sunday, April 3, 2016).

2nd Call for Papers:

Abstracts may be submitted for presentation in ASAL or WARL. For ASAL, papers are invited on topics dealing with theoretical and applied issues in Arabic linguistics: linguistic analysis (phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics), sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, discourse analysis, historical linguistics, corpus linguistics, and computational linguistics. For WARL, research is encouraged in areas such as Romance/Arabic language contact, Romance/Arabic multilingualism, and Maltese linguistics. 

Abstracts must follow the ALS guidelines for writing abstracts at: http://www4.uwm.edu/letsci/linguistics/als/symposia/guidelines-writing.cfm.

Deadline for receipt of abstracts: midnight (EDT) November 15, 2015

The Arabic Linguistics Society announces the ‘ALS Best Student Abstract Award’ to be offered for the first time at the 30th ASAL. The award carries a monetary prize ($300) and goes to the highest-ranked student abstract as determined by the anonymous abstract review process. The winner must present the paper at the Symposium to receive the monetary prize at the ALS Business Meeting. Students who wishes to have their abstracts considered for the award must select ‘Yes’ in response to the question ‘Are you a student?’ on the Abstract Submission page. Only abstracts for which all authors are students will be considered; abstracts co-authored with a faculty are not eligible for the award.
