Linguistic Field(s): Discourse Analysis; Pragmatics

Call Deadline: 23-Nov-2015

Meeting Description:

The 19th Arbeitstagung zur Gesprächsforschung (Annual Conference on Conversation and Discourse Analysis in German speaking countries) will take place from March 16 to March 18, 2016 at the Institut für Deutsche Sprache (Institute for the German Language, Mannheim/Germany). The special theme of the conference in 2016 will be ''Diskursmarker (discourse marker)''.

This year's conference theme is research on discourse markers.

Call for Papers:

Papers should deal with interactional and pragmatic functions, syntactic distribution and maybe also grammaticalization of discourse markers in various languages. Papers should combine solid empirical research with an explicit reflection of the concept of discourse marker with respect to the data studied and in relationship to conceptual alternatives such as connective, discourse particle, turn-initial object, etc. Studies from different disciplines (e.g. conversation analysis, interactional linguistics, discourse grammar, research on function words, etc.) are welcome.

Contribution formats include individual papers (25min + 25min discussion), workshops/data sessions (120min), and short project presentations (15min).

Papers can be given in German and English. However, German will be the main conference language.

Abstracts should be up to 2500 characters long and comprise research question(s) and results, data and methods used as well as research progress.

They should be submitted to tagung at gespraechsforschung.de by November 23, 2015.

Further information can be obtained from the organizers at tagung at gespraechsforschung.de and at http://tagung.gespraechsforschung.de
