Description:

The Faculty of Humanities, Leiden University Centre for Linguistics has a
vacancy from 1 August 2016 to 31 December 2019 for an Assistant Professor in
Russian language and linguistics (0.8 fte)

Key responsibilities

- Teaching and developing courses in Russian linguistics and Russian language
acquisition in the department of Russian Studies; 
- In the programme of International Studies the Assistant Professor will also
teach a general introduction to Linguistics, and half a course in the field of
(Russian) sociolinguistics; 
- Participation in developing the linguistics curriculum of LUCL, and
implementation of innovative concepts for language teaching; 
- Research in Russian linguistics and supervision of BA, MA and PhD theses.
Candidates with a specialization in modern Russian linguistics are preferred; 
- Acquisition of research grants at the national and international level; 
- Managerial and organizational responsibilities in LUCL and the department of
Russian Studies.

Selection criteria

- A PhD in (modern) Russian linguistics; 
- Demonstrable commitment to high-quality teaching practice, and the ability
to teach (modern) Russian linguistics and Russian language acquisition; 
- An interest in and preferably experience with research-driven teaching; 
- Proven didactic qualities (teaching evaluations); 
- Very good command of Russian; 
- Excellent research qualities, and research experience in the study of
(modern) Russian linguistics; 
- Non-Dutch nationals are expected to fluently speak Dutch within two years
after their appointment. 

The successful candidate will closely collaborate with other members of LUCL.

Upon appointment, depending on experience to date, the Assistant Professor may
be required to enter a nationally standardized tertiary teaching skills
certification trajectory (BKO or Basis Kwalificatie Onderwijs), successful
completion of which is a condition for extension of contract and tenure.

Terms and conditions

We offer a fixed-term position for 0.8 fte as Assistant Professor
(Universitair Docent 2), for 3.5 years. The appointment will proceed in
accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities (CAO
Nederlandse Universiteiten). 

The salary level ranges from € 2,532.- tot € 4,654.- gross per month (salary
scale 10-11), commensurate with qualifications.

Leiden University offers an attractive benefits package with additional
holiday (8%) and end-of-year bonuses (8.3 %). Candidates from outside the
Netherlands may be eligible for a substantial tax break.
