Description:

Part time – 50% FTE
Fixed term for a period of 23 months
Grade 7 - Starting salary £28,982 a year, in a range up to £37,768 a year,

We are now recruiting for a part-time (0.5 FTE) Research Fellow to work on
Death Before Birth, a project funded by the ESRC and led by Dr Danielle Fuller
(University of Birmingham) in collaboration with Professor Jeannette
Littlemore (University of Birmingham) and Dr Sheelagh McGuinness (University
of Bristol). The project is a socio-legal, linguistic study of how people in
England who have experienced miscarriage, termination, and stillbirth reach
decisions concerning the disposal of the remains of pregnancy, how their
perceptions of the law impact on their decision-making, and how they
communicate their experiences and choices to those who are there to support
them. The project will explore the ways in which metaphor is used by those who
have experienced miscarriage, termination, and stillbirth, and those who
support them. Our project partners are: The Human Tissue Authority, SANDS, the
Miscarriage Association and Ante-natal Results and Choices. The project team
will be working closely with these agencies which are both participants in and
beneficiaries of the study.

The post is part-time (0.5 FTE) for 23 months and will start in September
2016. The Research Fellow will be based at the University of Birmingham’s
Edgbaston campus. The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for
analysing and interpreting the various data sets. In particular, they will
work on metaphor identification and analysis using corpus linguistic
techniques. They will contribute content to the project website and will also
work with the research team on the delivery of the public engagement and
impact activities planned for the project. Further duties will include
presenting papers to relevant academic stakeholders, co-organising a research
symposium, writing articles for publication and co-editing a special issue of
a peer-reviewed journal.

The successful candidate will have completed a doctorate with a strong focus
on metaphor; have experience of relevant techniques and methods (e.g.
WordSmith Tools, WMatrix). The post holder must be resourceful, flexible,
well-organised and able to work independently and as part of a team. They will
have good IT skills, an enthusiasm for collaborative and interdisciplinary
research, and ambitions to pursue a career in academia.

they will match any gift you make to a non-profit organization.
Normally this entails your contacting your human resources department

returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative
procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without
costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if
