Abstract:

Das Otjiherero – der südwestlichste Zweig der Familie der Bantusprachen – ist
die Sprache der (Ova-)Herero, wird aber von Völkerschaften, welche nördlich
vom Hereroland wohnen und gewöhnlich unter dem Namen Ovambo zusammengefasst
werden, zum Teil verstanden und gesprochen. Seit das Hereroland unter
deutschen Reichsschutz gestellt wurde, hat das Interesse an der Sprache der
Bewohner stark zugenommen: Von neuen Siedlern, die die Grundelemente der
Sprache beherrschen wollen, über Missionare und Beamte, welche nach eine
gründlichen, die Feinheiten der Sprache berücksichtigenden Anleitung suchen,
bis hin zu Sprachforschern in der Heimat, welche sich nach einer
wissenschaftlichen Behandlung des Sprachbaues sehnen. Ich habe mich bestrebt,
hier allen diesen Bedürfnissen entgegenzukommen. Die in möglichst einfacher
Form ausgedrückten Regeln sind leicht verständlich. Trotz einem Verzicht auf
lange Übungstexte sollten die vorhandenen Übungssätze aus der Umgangssprache
besonders Anfängern sehr willkommen sein und sie gut auf die Sprachpraxis
