Description:

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities, The University of Macau (UM) invites
applications for the position of Full / Associate Professor of applied
linguistics in relevant sub-areas. These include, but are not restricted to,
language and pedagogy, second language acquisition, linguistics, and teaching
English to speakers of other languages.

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities is composed of the Departments of English,
Chinese Language and Literature, Portuguese, the Centre for Japanese Studies,
the English Language Centre, and the Philosophy and Religion Studies
Programme. The Departments offer courses and supervision for B.A., M.A., and
Ph.D. programmes. The Faculty also has a very important place for Translation
and is an important contributor to the University-wide programme in General

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Linguistics, Applied
Linguistics, or a related area, teaching experience at tertiary institutions
and a track record of quality research publications appropriate to the rank of
Full or Associate Professor. Applicants for the position should have an
excellent record in teaching and academic supervision in teaching English to
speakers of other languages as well as a good record of research grant
applications. Academic specialization is open, but applicants with research
specialization in curriculum design, language acquisition, or language
instructional strategies are especially welcome. Applicants should be willing
to teach BA and MA level courses and supervise PhD level research. An
appointment may be offered at either the Full or Associate Professor rank
based on the appointment panel’s recommendation.

The selected candidate may assume duty as early as January 2017.

Position and Remuneration:

Remuneration and  appointment rank  offered  will  be  competitive  and 
commensurate with  the  successful  applicants’  academic qualification,
current position and professional experience. The current local maximum income
tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary
exemptions.
