Meeting Description:

Food for Thought: Exploring the Relationship between LGBTQ+ Identities and
Linguistic Representations of Culinary Practices

Food is an integral part of our everyday lives, just like language. Both are
thus highly intertwined with notions of identity. This panel aims at bringing
together research on the (de)construction of LGBTQ+ identities through food
discourses of various types (including, but by no means limited to cookbooks,
food blogs, advertisements and literary texts as well as TV shows/movies in
which food plays a prominent role). Possible topics include: the notions of
‘camp cuisine’ and ‘pride food’, transgender foods, the relationship between
food and sexual desire, and food practices as a means of creating a sense of
identity/community.

Call for Papers:

Submissions are invited from all disciplinary backgrounds, as long as a
linguistic perspective is included in the analysis. Interdisciplinary
approaches are highly encouraged.

Please send abstracts of no more than 250 words (excluding references) by
Friday 23 September 2016.
