Description:

The Department of Linguistics and Asian/Middle Eastern Languages seeks a
tenure-­track assistant professor with a specialization in sociolinguistics,
to begin in fall 2017. Area of specialization within sociolinguistics is open;
areas of particular interest include but are not limited to variation theory,
language contact, bilingualism, language and gender, sociohistorical
linguistics, sociocultural linguistics, language and ethnicity, and African
American Vernacular English. We are especially interested in candidates who
demonstrate strong potential to develop and carry out a research agenda that
includes fieldwork in the linguistically and culturally diverse speech
communities of San Diego. The successful candidate will be expected to
maintain an active program of scholarly research, teach undergraduate and
graduate ­level courses in sociolinguistics and other areas of linguistics,
and contribute appropriate service to the department, college, and profession.

position is filled.  A Ph.D. in Linguistics or a related field should be in
