Call Deadline: 01-Nov-2016

Dear Colleagues,

You are cordially invited to submit your original manuscripts to be considered
for publication in our upcoming special issue (December 2016):
Multilingualism, Multiculturalism and Foreign/Second Language Teacher
Education. As we know, the related topics of multilingualism and
multiculturalism in education have become a hot-button issue (Lönz, 2013). On
the one hand, the need to serve learners from a wide range of cultural,
linguistic, and socio-economic backgrounds; and on the other hand, the need to
support the development of today's students as tomorrow's socially responsive
citizens (Fowers & Davidoff, 2006); have had a significant impact on the
educational process (Gelūnas, 2015; Hall & Theriot, 2016).

In this respect, language education is frequently seen as a natural context in
which to develop learners' awareness of other cultures; and therefore, the
ways that pre-service teachers of second/foreign languages are prepared to
deal with these issues in their future practice are of particular interest
(Çelik, 2014).

The purpose of this special issue of Sustainable Multilingualism is to explore
the efforts that are underway to provide language teacher candidates with the
pedagogical content knowledge, as well as the practical skills, to deal with
multilingualism and/or multiculturalism in the classroom. These efforts may
encompass educational policy-making, standards/competencies for language
teachers, the curricula and content of teacher education programs, coursework,
fieldwork, and any other related themes. As we are hoping to provide a truly
global perspective on these issues, we encourage research articles from
international authors in any related discipline.

All manuscripts should be submitted through the journal website at
http://uki.vdu.lt/sm/ and will be subject to a rigorous blind peer review
process. Please see the website for information concerning the journal scope,
as well as formatting and submission guidelines. Author registration is
required for article submission. Please note that Sustainable Multilingualism
does not charge any author or reader fees and is available both online and in
print (in limited quantities).

The submission deadline is November 1, 2016, and manuscripts will be processed
for a quick turnaround. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any
questions, and we will look forward to your submissions.
