Meeting Description:

Scholars working in a variety of fields (e.g. linguistics, cultural studies,
anthropology) are invited to participate in this one-day seminar on the
construction of gender and gender relations in contemporary Europe with a
particular focus on post-socialist European contexts. The seminar will explore
the role of gender in the migration process with a particular focus on
post-socialist European contexts. During the seminar, graduate students and
scholars working on gender issues will investigate how gender relations affect
migration, settlement and relationship with the ‘home’ culture that has been
left behind. 

Registration is free. All participants interested in the seminar should
register through an eventbrite link which will be available from September 1
to October 10.


Call for Papers:

We welcome 20-minute-long papers contributing to the debate on the
construction of gender and gender relations among contemporary European
migrants, especially from Eastern and Central Europe. Scholars working in a
variety of fields (e.g. cultural studies, anthropology, linguistics, history,
sociology, area studies, film studies) are invited to participate.

The deadline for abstract submission is September 15 2016. Accepted speakers
will be notified on September 20 2016.

500-word abstracts  with short bios should be sent to
gimseminar2016 at gmail.com.
