Specialty Areas: General Linguistics

Description:

The Department of Linguistics of the School of Oriental and Africa Studies
(London, UK) encourages applications from prospective MA/PhD students for
September 2017 entry.
Students are eligible for a number of scholarships.

SOAS is a member of the UBEL Doctoral Training Partnership (UBEL-DTP),
alongside UCL, Birkbeck, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine,
and the University of East London. The Partnership provides ESRC funding for
over 40 new PhD studentships each year.

Prospective students for Linguistics pathway at SOAS can apply for:

- MA Language Documentation and Description or MA Linguistics + MPhil/PhD in
Linguistics. This option involves one-year full-time or two-years part-time
study on a Masters programme followed by three years of full-time (or five
years’ part-time) research leading to award of the PhD.

- MPhil/PhD in Linguistics. This option involves immediate entry to three
years of full-time or five years of part-time PhD research and assumes that a
student has already met the majority of the core training requirements or the
PhD focus is largely on more advanced training.

Students must apply both for admission onto MA/PhD programme and for a
UBEL-DTP studentship. These are separate processes.

The internal deadline for receipt of both applications for Linguistics Pathway
at SOAS is 6 January 2017
