The Department of Foreign Languages and the Canadian Studies Centre of the
Faculty of Humanities, University of Holguin, Cuba, in collaboration with the
Department of French Studies, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Western
University, Canada, the Department of Language Studies, University of Toronto
Mississauga, Canada, The Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute (OLBI),
University of Ottawa, Canada; La  Facultad  de Idiomas, University of Baja
California, Mexico; with the support of the Canadian Embassy in Cuba, and 
Hotel  Club Amigo Atlántico-Guardalavaca, Cuba, issues the First Call for
papers for:

- WEFLA 2017: International Conference on Foreign Languages, Communication and
Culture; and

 - The XI  International Seminar on Canadian Studies: Canada, managing social
and cultural diversity in its 150 years

to be held, as part of the VIII International Scientific Conference of the
University of Holguín, at Hotel Club Amigo Atlántico-Guardalavaca, Playa
Guardalavaca, Holguín, Cuba. April 26-28, 2017.

Objective:

To foster international cooperation in the field of second and foreign
language teaching, communication and cultural issues, as well as in Canadian
Studies through the presentation of research findings and the discussion of
professional experiences.

Topics include (but are not confined to) the following areas: 

- Foreign Language Teaching
- Teacher Training and Teacher Development
- Translation and Interpretation
- Applied Linguistics
- Linguistic Anthropology
- Literature
- Language
- Education and Culture.


Call for Papers:

This conference will provide an opportunity to examine and share the
state-of-the-art research and best practices in the field of second and
foreign language teaching, communication, and cultural issues, as well as in
Canadian Studies. Proposals for individual papers and for panels are welcome.
Established academics and early-career scholars are encouraged to submit
proposals.

Topics include (but  are  not  confined  to) the following areas:

Foreign Language Teaching
Teacher Training and Teacher   Development
Translation and Interpretation
Applied Linguistics
Linguistic Anthropology
Literature
Language 
Education and Culture

In collaboration with Alternate Routes Annual Conference: Social Inequality &
Social Justice: North & South, North vs. South.

The organizing committee invites you to submit your contribution to be
considered for presentation at the Conference in one of the following
categories: Paper, Poster, Workshop, Roundtable.

Abstract: 

Less than 250 words including problem, objectives, methodology and results +
keywords.

Full Paper:

6-10 pages in length. Abstract and full paper should be typed using:

- Arial 10 point font
- 1.5 spacing
- 2.5 cm upper and bottom margins
- 3 cm left and right margins
- Letter format in MS Word or OpenOffice
- References should follow APA 2016 style
- A citation index

Deadline for proposals: February 15, 2017
Notification of Acceptance: February 28, 2017 
Submission of Full Paper: March 20, 2017

Full paper submissions are optional but will be included in the proceedings
for publication. Submissions will undergo a blink peer review process.
