Description:

Bergen University College is one of the leading teaching-training institutions

Work description

The position as professor in English principally involves teaching,
supervision and research in second/foreign language acquisition. The
successful candidate will be expected to teach in the basic teacher training
courses, as well as in the master’s and in-service courses. In addition, the
candidate’s duties may involve work related to the Faculty doctoral programme,
‘The study of education and didactic practices’. The successful candidate
will also be expected to engage in research and development in the field of
English as a second/foreign language, related to teaching practice and in
connection with the practice field. It is expected that the person appointed
will take a leading role in the research within the English department.

Primary qualifications

Applicants must have a professorship in the field of English as a
second/foreign. In particular, applicants with a PhD in second language
acquisition and EFL/ESL pedagogy are encouraged to apply. Professor competence
here implies a doctorate in a relevant field, and a significant body of
high-quality research, in excess of that required for a doctorate, that shows
a breadth and depth of scholarship. Applicants with experience in doing
research on relevant school-related topics will be prioritized.

Secondary qualifications

Emphasis will also be placed on relevant professional experience from primary,
secondary or tertiary educational sectors. Good Norwegian competence and a
knowledge of the Norwegian school system would be an advantage. To participate
fully in the activities of the Department, Norwegian will be required. If the
person entering the position does not have Norwegian competence, it will be
expected that this will be acquired within three years .

Application procedure

Applications will be evaluated by an expert panel of three members. Applicants
are asked to submit their application and CV online at the application website
below.

Please use the link “Apply for this job” (“Søk stillingen”). The following
documentation should be uploaded as an attachment to the online application:

- Copies of selected academic publications (no more than 15)
- A CV with a complete list of academic publications
- Diplomas and certificates

Applicants should indicate which publications or parts of publications should
be given special consideration in the evaluation. If the documents submitted
are not in a Scandinavian language or in English, the applicants must submit
certified translations of these. Applicants should note that the evaluation
will be based on the documentation submitted electronically via Jobbnorge
within the submission deadline. The applicants are responsible for ensuring
that all the documentation is submitted before the closing date. It is of
utmost importance that all publications to be considered in the evaluation are
uploaded as an attachment with the application, since these are sent
electronically to the expert panel. Applications cannot be sent by e-mail or
to individuals at the college.

Salary

The position is remunerated according to the state salary scale, code 1013
Professor, salary grades 69-101 (NOK 602 800 – 1 255 500). A 2% compulsory
pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted.
