Linguistic Field(s): Historical Linguistics; Semantics

Call Deadline: 30-Jun-2016

Meeting Description:

In recent years, formal semantic research has expanded its scope to historical
linguistics. Formal studies in meaning change help to understand the structure
of the space of possible denotations, restrictions on possible
syntax-semantics interfaces and the division of labour between pragmatics and
semantics in the constitution of meaning.

In order to connect ongoing strands of research, the linguistic department at
the University of Konstanz hosts a workshop on Formal Diachronic Semantics
(FoDS) to take place Sept. 12 - 14, 2016.

Guest speaker: Dag T. T. Haug (Oslo)

As a satellite event, we will organize a half-day tutorial on corpus methods
in historical semantics in cooperation with the computerlinguistic research
team of the University of Konstanz.

Program committee:
Corien Bary, Andrea Beltrama, Ashwini Deo, Dag Haug, Roumyana Pancheva, Igor
Yanovich, Hedde Zeijlstra

Call for Papers:

We invite abstract submissions for oral presentations addressing meaning
change on basis of formal theories of semantics/pragmatics, including case
studies, studies of trends and drifts as well as general formal theories of
meaning change and corpus based research. Oral presentations will be scheduled
for 40 minute slots (30 minutes talk + 10 minutes discussion).

Abstracts must be anonymous, in PDF format, 2 pages (A4 or letter), in a font
size no less than 12pt. Please submit abstracts via EasyChair (see link below)
no later than June 30, 2016.
