Description:
UMD's Language Science Center is offering a two-week intensive
language-learning experience at the Sololá Field Station in the highlands of
Guatemala, followed by a two-week language research experience. The course
will feature one of the indigenous languages of Guatemala, belonging to either
the Mayan or Maipurean language families. You will stay with local families to
experience daily life in Sololá, Guatemala, while working with experienced
language teachers for 6-8 hours each day, immersing yourself in the language.
Research projects will be on the language of instruction or a closely related
language. You will work individually and in small groups while eliciting and
analyzing language data.
