Description:

The Department of Arts and Letters at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi
(UQAC) is seeking to fill a full-time, tenure-track professor position in its
teaching English-as-a-second language (TESOL), modern languages and
linguistics programs.

Duties   

The candidate will:

- At the undergraduate level:
1) Teach courses related to the mastery of English-as-as-second language (ESL)
as well as TESOL: writing, grammar, didactics in second language teaching,
evaluation, and other related courses in applied linguistics;
2) Supervise students in their teaching practicum and contribute to the
development of practice teaching guides and the evaluation process;
- At the graduate level: 
1) Teach seminars in the Master's in Linguistics program (in language
didactics, for instance) and supervise graduate theses.

The candidate should also:

- Develop a research program and publish in their field of expertise;
- Actively participate in the administration and development of department
programs;
- Provide service to the university community and the region, within his or
her field of expertise.

Qualifications 

The candidate should:

- Hold a PhD in second-language teaching or in Applied Linguistics, with a
specialisation in second language teaching and learning in primary and
secondary education (doctoral candidates will be considered if they have
arranged to complete their dissertation and defence within one year of being
hired);
- Have university-level teaching experience (attach teaching evaluations and
course outlines); ESL teaching experience at the primary and/or secondary
level would be an asset;
- Demonstrate research expertise, including publications and conference
presentations;
- Supervise graduate students;
- Have knowledge of the ESL education system in Quebec; 
- Be willing to develop research collaboration with other members of the
department;
- Be willing to contribute to university service;
- Have a mastery of English equivalent to a native-English speaker as well as
an excellent mastery of oral and written French (graduate seminars are given
in French); mastery of a third language would be an asset.

Salary is according to qualifications and experience.

Employment Conditions  

Working conditions are regulated by the collective agreement in place.

Place of Employment: Chicoutimi, Quebec (and occasionally, surrounding study
centres)

Starting Date : August 1, 2016

be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.

While the language of instruction (undergraduate level) is English, the
working language at UQAC is French.
