Meeting Description:

We are delighted to inform that the 22nd Himalayan Languages Symposium (http://www.iitg.ernet.in/hls22/) will be held at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati from June 8-10, 2016, jointly hosted by the Department of Humanities & Social Sciences (HSS) and the Center for Linguistic Science and Technology (CLST).  The Himalayan Languages Symposium is a multidisciplinary conference that covers a broad range of topics of the Himalayan languages. As mentioned in the official website of Himalayan Languages Symposium (http://www.himalayansymposium.org/), contributions are welcome on any language of the greater Himalayan region, e.g. Burushaski, Kusunda, Tibeto-Burman, Indo-Iranian, Austroasiatic, Kradai, Andamanese, Nihali, Dravidian etc. Contributions are also invited from related disciplines such as history, anthropology, archaeology and prehistory focusing on the greater Himalayan region.

Call for Papers: 

This year at IIT Guwahati, we will pay special attention to the following areas of research in the Himalayan Languages:
 
- Phonetics and Phonology
- Cognitive Linguistics
- Syntax
- Semantics
- Morphology
- Language Technology Development
- Natural Language Processing
- Writing systems and typography
- Language and Politics
- Migration pattern of the greater Himalayan region
- History of linguistic research in the Himalayan region
- Speech Technology
- Second Language Acquisition

Submissions:

We invite short 4 page papers for submission. These short papers will help us evaluate the merit of the presentations better and additionally, it will be possible for us to archive the papers in the digital repository of CLST at IIT Guwahati. The format for submission of short papers is available at http://www.iitg.ernet.in/hls22/backup/HLS22template.docx. Selected papers presented at the conference are likely to be invited for submission as full length papers in a volume to be published after the conference. 

Registration & Accommodation:

Details about accommodation will be available soon on our official website. Accommodation for HLS22 will be provided on campus. IIT Guwahati has a number of rooms booked for the conference in the guest house along with rooms in the student dorms. More information about accommodation will be available in the official website of HLS22 soon.

15 February 2016: Deadline for submission of short papers
10 March 2016: Notification of acceptance of paper
08-10 June, 2016: Conference Dates
