Meeting Description:

8th International Conference on Historical Lexicography and Lexicology of the International Society for Historical Lexicography and Lexicology
Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, USA
12-15 July 2016

Call for Papers:

The organizers of the 8th International Conference on Historical Lexicography and Lexicology invite submissions of abstracts on all topics relevant to historical lexicography and lexicology. We especially invite papers on the conference’s theme, Chronology and Historical Lexicography and Lexicology. Papers on problems attending dates and dating, periods and periodizing, and the theories of history underlying work in historical lexicography and lexicology will be most welcome. We are also interested in papers that consider historical lexicography of the new digital world, papers that begin with the question, “How is chronology reconceived in the era of digitally driven lexical research and lexicographical structure, design, and display?” We will have four plenary lectures from four outstanding specialists on these themes: Fred R. Shapiro (Yale University, dates and dating), Anne Curzan (University of Michigan, periods and periodizing), Mira Podhajecka (University of Opole, theor
ies of history), and Sarah Ogilvie (Stanford University, digital chronologies).

Guidelines for Abstract:

Papers should be timed at no more than 20 minutes. Abstracts should be no more than 500 words and should be uploaded at the conference website, which can be found at ichll8.com. Abstracts and papers must be written/presented in English. The deadline for abstracts is 1 February 2016 and decisions about acceptance will be made by the middle of February.

Further Communication:

Because internal grant funding proposals are still in process at this date, we do not yet know where to set the registration fee, but that and all other registration information will be available at the website by January. Many aspects of the conference program are hopefully planned but not yet assured — beginning in December, we should begin posting conference news as the program develops. In the meantime, do not hesitate to write to Michael Adams with any questions you may have, at adamsmp at indiana.edu.
