Meeting Description:

The 4th International Conference on Functional Discourse Grammar will be held
in Vienna from 31 August through 3 September 2016. The aim of this conference
is to further develop the model of Functional Discourse Grammar (FDG) as
proposed by Kees Hengeveld and J. Lachlan Mackenzie.

This conference will be preceded by a Preconference Course on FDG
(IPC-FDG-2016) on 29 - 30 August 2016.

Venue:
Both IC-FDG-2016 and IPC-FDG-2016 will take place at the University of Vienna,
Department of English and American Studies, University Campus, Hof 8.3,
Spitalgasse 2, 1090 Vienna.


2nd Call for Papers:
 
Fourth International Conference on Functional Discourse Grammar (IC-FDG-2016) 
Vienna, Austria, 31 August to 3 September 2016.

This conference will be preceded by a Preconference Course on FDG
(IPC-FDG-2016)
on 29 - 30 August 2016.

Objectives:

The aim of FDG2016 is to further develop the model of Functional Discourse
Grammar (FDG) as proposed by Kees Hengeveld and J. Lachlan Mackenzie. A full
treatment of FDG can be found in: Hengeveld, Kees and Mackenzie, J. Lachlan
(2008) Functional Discourse Grammar: A typologically-based theory of language
structure. Oxford: Oxford University Press.

The conference:

All sessions at the conference will be plenary, so as to enhance discussion
between participants. Presentations will be 30 minutes followed by 10 minutes
for discussion. The programme will also include a poster session. The language
of the conference will be English.

The venue:

Both IC-FDG-2016 and IPC-FDG-2016 will take place at the University of Vienna,
Department of English and American Studies, University Campus, Hof 8.3,
Spitalgasse 2, 1090 Vienna.

Abstracts:

Each abstract should contain at least the following information: a clearly
defined and well-motivated research question; crucial examples illustrating
the relevance of the research question for the theory of FDG; main
conclusions. Abstracts should be approximately 1,000 words long (excluding
references), i.e. roughly 3 pages. The abstract should be anonymized, i.e.
should not contain the name of the author, (remember also to replace all
bibliographical references to works of the author simply by “Author” (year)
and to remove the author’s name from the computer file).  Please indicate in
the accompanying message whether you want to present a paper or a poster. The
deadline for the submission of abstracts of papers and posters is 1 February
2016. Please submit your abstract electronically to fg-fgw at uva.nl.

Organizing Committee:

The Organizing Committee consists of Evelien Keizer, Julia Skala and Elnora
Ten Wolde (all University of Vienna).

Programme Committee:

The Board of the Functional Discourse Grammar Foundation (FDGF) has appointed
a Programme Committee consisting of the following members: Ventura Salazar
García (Chair, University of Jaén), Evelien Keizer (University of Vienna), and
Marize Mattos Dall’Aglio Hattnher (State University of São Paulo). The
Programme Committee will evaluate all the abstracts submitted for the
conference. Abstracts submitted by members of the Programme Committee will be
evaluated by an independent member of the Board of the FDGF.
Notices regarding acceptance/rejection of abstracts will be sent by 15 March
at the latest.

Preconference course:

The preconference course on FDG is aimed at graduates and postgraduates and
will be taught by Kees Hengeveld and Lachlan Mackenzie.

Registration:

register for the course and/or conference. Please pay your fee in advance for
the combination of events for which you have registered. All lunches as well
as the conference dinner are included in the registration fee. The fees are €
100 for the course, € 140 for the conference, and € 180 for the combination of
course and conference.
