Description:

The Department of Cognitive Studies (DEC;
http://www.cognition.ens.fr/indexENG.html) at Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris
(ENS) is opening a junior research and teaching position in ‘theoretical or
experimental linguistics’ for a period of 3 years, starting in Fall 2016. This
position will be renewable for an additional 2 years. At the end of this
5-year period, ENS intends to open a full (tenured) professorship, to which
the junior professor could apply. This full professorship will be filled in
accordance with French rules for professorships, as part of an open
competition among eligible applicants; for those already in the French system,
this will imply having passed the ‘Habilitation’ and ‘Qualification’
procedures. (Habiliation and Qualification are not needed to apply for the
junior position advertized here.)

Job description: The 3-year junior position is opened in any area of
theoretical or experimental linguistics (including theoretically-driven
computational linguistics). The successful applicant should have:

– A strong research record (as evidenced by publications in top-ranked
international peer-reviewed journals) and a dynamic research program;
– An ability to interact productively with partner teams within DEC;
– An ability to play an active role in shaping the linguistics curriculum at
ENS;
– An ability to teach in French within two years from the starting date.

Applicants should have completed their PhD before the starting date.

Research Environment: DEC offers a highly interdisciplinary environment.
Language-related research at DEC is conducted in several research groups which
interact with each other. For an overview of language-related research, please

Teaching obligations: about 4 hours per week (one or two courses per
semester), for about 26 weeks per year,  and individual advising of some
students. 

Net Salary: The starting net salary will range from 2400 and 2800 euros/month,
depending on experience, and will gradually increase each year.
