Associate Professor of Hispanic Linguistics/
Director of the Spanish Language Program 

The Department of Languages and Linguistics at The University of Texas at El
Paso is recruiting an Associate Professor of Hispanic Linguistics who will
serve as the Director of the Spanish Language Program.  The position will
entail a 2/2 teaching assignment in Spanish and Methods of Second Language
Teaching (Pedagogy) at either or both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
As Director, the colleague who is appointed will undertake a thorough review
of the Spanish Program, with special attention to how speakers of Heritage
Spanish can be supported in their acquisition of academic registers.  In this
regard, the Director will be expected to devise and implement an effective
placement regime. The Director will coordinate and supervise all activities in
the lower-level Spanish B.A. and will provide training and supervision for TAs
and Instructors.  Tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to be
productively engaged in research as well as to contribute to the service need
of the Department.  The appointment date is September 1st, 2016.

Required Qualifications:  An ideal candidate will have in Ph.D. in Hispanic
Linguistics, Foreign Language Pedagogy, or Applied Linguistics with a tangible
record of ongoing scholarly and practical engagement with second language
acquisition, including with Spanish for Heritage Speakers. is required. 
Native or near-native language fluency in both Spanish and English is
required. 

Additional Preferred Qualifications: Experience coordinating multi-section
courses, in college-level Spanish language program supervision including
oversight of curriculum, instruction, and both teaching assistants and
instructors, and expertise integrating technology into curricula are preferred
qualifications.

Salary competitive and commensurate with experience.
