Description:

Position Summary: Michigan State University seeks to fill a two-year,
full-time instructor or assistant professor in Chinese language teaching. This
person will teach three courses per semester, or equivalent, Chinese language
courses at all levels and will be expected to participate in the activities
related to the Department of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian, and
African Languages in the College of Arts & Letters. This 9 month Academic Year
position will begin August 16, 2016 with the possibility of renewal. We seek
candidates with primary interests and experience in the teaching and learning
of Chinese language. The successful candidate will bring innovative ideas and
language program experience to a growing university-level Chinese language
program. Familiarity with communicative language teaching is a must.
Responsibilities include close collaboration in a supportive language
community that is comprised of the Center for Language Teaching Advancement, a
strong Second Language Studies doctoral program, world-renowned study abroad
initiatives, and the Asian Studies Center. We welcome applicants who would
especially benefit from collaborative opportunities in an interdisciplinary
work environment. In the second year, the position will include responsibility
for coordinating and supervising the teaching assistants. This is a fixed-term
position with potential for renewal based on performance and availability of
funding. Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates should have at least a MA degree in an
appropriate field.

Desired Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who have
experience teaching in hybrid and/or on-line course environments.
