Linguistic Field(s): Computational Linguistics; Language Acquisition; Lexicography; Translation

Call Deadline: 30-Sep-2016

Meeting Description:

The research group SpatiAlEs of the University of Santiago tries with this
symposium to encourage dialogue and contact among researchers working on
building parallel corpora and researchers exploring such resources for various
purposes.

The broad range of applications poses a major challenge in building parallel
corpora. Since the creation of a parallel corpus is a labor intensive and
time-consuming task it is crucial to design a multifunctional resource able to
meet the needs of diverse user groups, satisfying the requirements of
demanding users without discouraging other users.

Main goals of this workshop are to identify key challenges by bringing
together different research perspectives with a a special focus on the
applications and to provide a platform for presentation of projects on
parallel corpora where Spanish is the pivot language.

Call for Papers:

Papers are welcome from a range of subfields in three categories:

Design, annotation and visualization of parallel corpora regarding their
applications in:
- Contrastive linguistics
- Human translation and translation learning
- Machine translation
- Language teaching and learning
- Lexicography

Tools to meet the needs of the different applications
-Methods to mine parallel corpora. Automatic extraction from the Web, use of
other source texts. Issues.
-Annotation, tagging, sentence and word alignment of parallel corpora.
-Corpus query and visualization tools for parallel corpora.

Presentation of bilingual parallel corpora, in which Spanish is included or
multilingual corpora in which Spanish is the pivot language. For this purpose
the corpora, that are currently online available, are particularly relevant.

The organizing team recommends English for submissions. Nevertheless, Spanish,
Portuguese and German are also accepted. Accepted abstracts will be published
in the conference website.

The papers of presented talks assessed positively after being peer reviewed
will be published in the proceedings of the conference.

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Indiana University and
as such can receive donations through Indiana University Foundation. We
also collect donations via eLinguistics Foundation, a registered 501(c)
Non Profit organization with the federal tax number 45-4211155. Either
way, the donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your
state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the
IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that
they will match any gift you make to a non-profit organization.
Normally this entails your contacting your human resources department
and sending us a form that the Indiana University Foundation fills in
and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative
procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without
costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if
your company operates such a program.

Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
