Meeting Description:

The theme of the conference will be “Intersections of Peace and Language
Studies.” Peace is often defined as freedom from oppression, the end of
conflict or even harmony in relationships. Whatever the definition, the word
peace means different things to different people. Peace is an important
concept that also connects to the focus of ISLS: the intersections and meeting
places of language and power, identity, and social justice. It is in this
light that we invite proposal submissions that specifically address some
aspect of this focus and its intersection with the concept of peace.

Call for Papers:

About the Theme:

The ISLS conference is a venue for individuals from all disciplines to come
together and discuss language from a critical, interdisciplinary lens
(language use, language learning, language teaching, critical language
studies, to name a few). To that end, we encourage submissions from across
fields of study where their work connects language to peace.

In order to provide a guide and structure to the theme, the following
represent possible key words (called strands and elaborated below) to describe
your proposed session.

Strands:

Discourse & Peace
Language & Peace in the Professions & Workplace
Language, Peace & K-12 Education
Language, Peace & Higher Education/Adult Education
Language Policy & Peace
Language, Culture & Peace
Researching Peace in Language Studies
Other

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Indiana University and
as such can receive donations through Indiana University Foundation. We
also collect donations via eLinguistics Foundation, a registered 501(c)
Non Profit organization with the federal tax number 45-4211155. Either
way, the donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your
state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the
IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that
they will match any gift you make to a non-profit organization.
Normally this entails your contacting your human resources department
and sending us a form that the Indiana University Foundation fills in
and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative
procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without
costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if
your company operates such a program.

Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
