Job summary:

The candidate will work as Speech Scientist on customizing the spoken output
of speech applications in customer projects. Customization is done by means of
recording and tuning prompts for Nuance’s Text-to-Speech software.

The candidate should have computational linguistics and phonetic skills as
background knowledge and an interest in working with a broad range of
languages. These are needed to support and validate the work of language
experts creating tuned speech prompts and post processing recorded prompts.

Responsibilities:

- Analysis of customer specifications and requirements for spoken prompts and
creation of suitable prompt definitions for recording or text-to-speech (TTS)
tuning
- Preparation of prompt sheets for professional speakers
- Analysis of customer requests, feedback or error reports
- Direct customer contact for technical and linguistic support
- Coaching and supervision of language experts for a variety of languages
using Nuance’s TTS tools to create prompt tunings and phonetic transcriptions.
- Minor audio editing tasks
- Creation of prompt databases, rule sets and dictionaries for the TTS system
using Nuance’s tool set.
- QA and validation of results
- Functional testing of tuned and recorded prompts
- Preparation of delivery packages for customers

Qualifications:

Required Skills:

- Excellent English language skills (written and spoken)
- Skills in at least one more language
- Logistics and organizational skills
- Must be willing to travel occasionally

Preferred Skills:

- Scripting skills (Python or Perl)
- Familiarity with regular expressions
- Experience with text-to-speech or speech technology in general
- Experience with MOS tests, statistics

Education: Studies of computational linguistics, phonetics or related subjects
