Please help me learn more about the difference between Pittsburghese and other
dialects by taking part in a research study.

------
Ever wonder why people from different parts of the country don’t always
understand each other, even if they are both speaking English? Sometimes this
is because what you mean when you use a word can vary, depending on where you
grew up.

This 15-20 minute questionnaire asks you to judge whether sentences using the
word “whenever” sound correct to you, and how you understand those sentences.

Only people who are 18 or older are eligible for this study. No personally
identifying information will be collected. All results will be reported in a
confidential manner.

You can contact me with questions you might have. Finally, if you want to hear
about the results of the study, you can contact me and I will send you a note
or e-mail when the study is completed.

Thanks so much. I’m grateful for your help!

This year the LINGUIST List hopes to raise $79,000. This money

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Indiana University and
as such can receive donations through Indiana University Foundation. We
also collect donations via eLinguistics Foundation, a registered 501(c)
Non Profit organization with the federal tax number 45-4211155. Either
way, the donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your
state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the
IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that
they will match any gift you make to a non-profit organization.
Normally this entails your contacting your human resources department
and sending us a form that the Indiana University Foundation fills in
and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative
procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without
costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if
your company operates such a program.

Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
