From: Alexander Koller [koller at ling.uni-potsdam.de]
Subject: English; Computational Linguistics: Post Doc, Saarland University, Saarbruecken, Germany

University or Organization: Saarland University
Department: Department of Computational Linguistics and Phonetics
Job Location: Saarbruecken, Germany
Web Address: http://www.coli.uni-saarland.de/index.php?lang=en
Job Title: Two positions in computational linguistics
Job Rank: Post Doc

Specialty Areas: Computational Linguistics

Required Language(s): English (eng)

Description:

The Department of Computational Linguistics at Saarland University is pleased
to invite applications for two research and teaching positions in the research
group on Computational Linguistics (Prof. Dr. Alexander Koller). Depending on
previous qualifications, the positions could be at the post-doc or PhD student
level. The preferred start date is October 2016, but a later start date could
be negotiated.

A successful candidate should have proven expertise in statistical and/or
theoretical methods in computational linguistics and be willing to take an
active role in the group's research activities. The exact research topic is
flexible, but should connect to current topics of interest to the research
group. These include parsing, semantic parsing, dialogue, natural language
generation, and automata theory.

Each position includes a teaching load of four hours per week in the BSc
Computational Linguistics (in German) and/or the MSc Language Science and
Technology (in English).

The appointments will be made on the German TV-L E13 scale (100% position at
the postdoc level). The starting salary of a 100% TV-L E13 position is about
44,000 Euros per year and increases with experience. The durations of the
contracts can be negotiated, and can be extended up to the limits of the
German law for academic contracts (WissZeitVG).

Requirements:

A successful candidate should hold, or be about to complete, a PhD degree (at
the postdoc level) in computational linguistics, computer science, or a
related discipline. The applicant must have good spoken and written
proficiency in English; the ability to teach in German is a plus.

About the department:

Saarland University is one of the leading centers for computational
linguistics in the world, and offers a dynamic and stimulating research
environment. The Department for Computational Linguistics and Phonetics
organizes about 50 research staff in ten research groups in the fields of
computational linguistics, psycholinguistics, speech processing, and corpus
linguistics.

The department participates in the Collaborative Research Center 1102
"Information Density and Linguistic Encoding”
(http://www.sfb1102.uni-saarland.de) and is part of the Cluster of Excellence
"Multimodal Computing and Interaction” (http://www.mmci.uni-saarland.de), in
partnership with top-ranked research institutions located on the Saarland
University campus: the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, the Max Planck
Institute for Software Systems, the German Research Center for Artificial
Intelligence (DFKI), and the Computer Science Department at Saarland
University. Researchers come from all over the world, and the primary research
language is English.

How to apply:

Please submit your application at the application URL below.

Include a single PDF file with the following information:

- A statement of research interests that motivates why you are applying for
this position and what your research plans are;
- A full CV including your list of publications;
- Scans of transcripts and academic degree certificates;
- The names, affiliations, and e-mail addresses of two people who can provide
letters of reference for you.

Priority will be given to applications received by 1 August 2016.
