Description:

Lecturer in English Language Communication

The Centre for English Language Communication (CELC), National University of
Singapore invites applications for full-time non-tenure educator track
teaching positions, as follows:

Lecturers

Applicants for the position of Lecturer should possess: 

- A Master’s degree or PhD in Applied Linguistics, TESOL or a related field;
OR
- A Master’s degree or PhD in Rhetoric/Composition, Communication Studies,
humanities or the social sciences fields who can demonstrate evidence of their
expertise in teaching academic writing* 

and

- A sound record of and strong commitment to teaching, with a minimum of three
years of full-time teaching experience in English language and/or
communication at the tertiary level
- Evidence of experience in curriculum planning and materials development 
- Evidence of pedagogical research involving systematic inquiry into English
language teaching and learning at the higher education level (advantageous)

Successful applicants are expected to:

- Teach various courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level(s) 
- Work individually or in teams to develop courses grounded in ELT literature
and/or industry input
- Contribute expertise to ELT-related projects and activities
- Engage in pedagogical research which improves their own teaching and
supports English language teaching and learning at the higher education level 

* We are particularly interested in hiring candidates with degrees in such
fields who can design and teach undergraduate writing courses in specific
topic areas of their expertise. Applicants may indicate possible topics of

About CELC:

Established in 1979, the Centre plays a vital role in enhancing the English
language and communication skills of both local and international
undergraduate and graduate students at the National University of Singapore.
In fulfilling this role, the Centre runs a range of courses, which include
English Proficiency, English for Academic Purposes, English for Specific
Purposes, Professional Communication, Critical Thinking and Writing,
Interdisciplinary Writing, English for Graduate Students, and Thesis Writing.
The Centre is also responsible for delivering a content-based writing
programme (Ideas and Exposition) within the University Town residential

- A detailed curriculum vitae, with names and addresses (including email) of
three referees and a statement of current and expected remuneration
- Copies of degree scrolls
- Student/staff evaluations of courses taught in the last two years 
- Statement of teaching philosophy and methodology (max. 1,000 words)

asked to provide additional documents to support their application.

The starting salary is competitive and will depend on the applicant’s
qualifications and experience. Successful applicants are expected to commence
work in December 2016 or July 2017.
