Job Title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Multilingual Aphasia
Job Rank: Post Doc

Specialty Areas: Cognitive Science; General Linguistics; Neurolinguistics; Psycholinguistics; Multilingualism

Description:

One Postdoctoral Research Fellowship and one Doctoral Research Fellowship are
available at the Center for Multilingualism in Society across the Lifespan
(MultiLing) at the Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies,
University of Oslo, starting November 2016, for three years. The fellowships
are funded by the University of Oslo’s investment in developing world-leading
research communities and are part of one of MultiLing’s new research projects,
“Language and Communication in Multilingual Speakers with Aphasia in Norway”
(MultiLing Aphasia).

MultiLing is a Center of Excellence funded by the Research Council of Norway
and opened on June 1, 2013. It aims to generate scientific knowledge on
multilingualism across the lifespan, related to three themes: Individual
multilingual competence, multilingual language practices, and management of
multilingualism in society (for more information, see
http://www.hf.uio.no/multiling/). The above-mentioned research project is part
of MultiLing’s research theme “Multilingual Competence”.

MultiLing seeks strongly motivated, competent and internationally oriented
candidates, with high-ranking academic qualifications in the relevant area of
research to work on the new project. The project aims to study how converging
and contrastive linguistic structures contribute to (1) the observed
impairments in multilingual speakers with aphasia, and (2) cross-language
effects following aphasia treatment. The project further aims to explore (3)
the advantages and disadvantages of administering therapy in one language
versus implementing the use of multiple languages when treating multilingual
individuals with aphasia, and (4) what assessment measures can be used across
languages to determine degree of impairment and recovery of language and
communication in multilingual individuals with aphasia.

For postdoctoral fellowships, the doctoral dissertation must have been
submitted for evaluation within the application deadline in order for the
application to be considered for the fellowship.
