Description:

Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) is one of the leading research universities in
Germany. The university draws its strengths from both the diversity and the
proximity of scientific and engineering disciplines on a single, coherent
campus. This highly dynamic setting enables students and researchers to work
across traditional boundaries of academic disciplines and faculties.

The Faculty of Philology – Department of Linguistics – invites applications
for the position of a full-time W1 professor (assistant professor – without
tenure track) for Experimental semantics/pragmatics, with a focus on
experimental analysis and modeling of constitution of meaning, commencing
October 1, 2016. The initial period of appointment is for three years, with a
prospective prolongation for another three-year term after an evaluation.

Qualifications:

An outstanding doctorate, teaching experience in semantics and pragmatics,
substantial research experience in experimental methods in semantics or
experimental methods in pragmatics. Experimental research pursued should
relate to current approaches in semantic or pragmatic theory.

Teaching:

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses and advise students
at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Teaching of two
courses/seminars per semester in the first three years, 2-3 courses in the
remaining 3 years of the appointment (given a positive evaluation after 3
years) is required. Courses will be primarily taught in the B.A. program in
Linguistics. Conducting B.A. exams and supervising of B.A. theses are also
expected.

Research:

Candidates are expected to carry out independent research, participate in
coordinated externally funded research projects as well as in the acquisition
of research funds.

As an equal-opportunity employer, RUB wishes to increase the proportion of
female academic staff and therefore strongly encourages applications from
women. In addition, RUB particularly encourages severely challenged
individuals to apply.

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Indiana University and
as such can receive donations through Indiana University Foundation. We
also collect donations via eLinguistics Foundation, a registered 501(c)
Non Profit organization with the federal tax number 45-4211155. Either
way, the donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your
state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the
IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that
they will match any gift you make to a non-profit organization.
Normally this entails your contacting your human resources department
and sending us a form that the Indiana University Foundation fills in
and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative
procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without
costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if
your company operates such a program.

Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
