Job description:

The ERC project “How and when was Japan settled by speakers of Japanese?
Exploring the clues to Japanese prehistory preserved in old dialect divisions”
is looking for two highly motivated doctoral students. The candidates are
expected to conduct linguistic fieldwork in Japan, documenting several
Japanese dialects and writing high-quality descriptions of these dialects,
with special attention to the accent/tone system.

Requirements:

Master’s degree in Japanese Studies or equivalent, excellent knowledge of both
English and Japanese as well as demonstrated experience in working with
linguistic methods.

The application should include:

1. A letter of motivation explaining why you are interested in the position
and how you meet the qualifications.
2. A A full-length CV, including grade average and detailing your educational
background, such as your training in linguistics.
3. A copy of your MA thesis and, if applicable, of any publications relevant
to the project.
4. The names and contact details of two references.
