Meeting Description:

The Sixth International Conference on Late Modern English: Internal and
External Factors in Linguistic Stability and Language Change

Uppsala University will host the Sixth International Conference on Late Modern
English (LMEC 6) on August 17-19, 2017. The previous host venues of LMEC have
been Edinburgh (2001), Vigo (2004), Leiden (2007), Sheffield (2010), and
Bergamo (2013).

The theme of LMEC 6 is ''Internal and External Factors in Linguistic Stability
and Language Change''. The Call for Papers will be out in late spring 2016. We
welcome proposals for papers that explore Late Modern English and include a
discussion of underlying factors that can be hypothesized as contributing to
the stability or change observed in the data. Such factors may be
language-internal or language-external. Papers can be either full papers (20
minutes, plus time for discussion) or work-in-progress papers (10 minutes,
plus time for discussion). Proposals for workshops and software demonstrations
are also welcome. Proposals will be reviewed by a committee. Information on
travel, accommodation, and the conference website will be provided with the
Call for Papers.

We look forward to seeing you in Uppsala!

The Department of English at Uppsala University will host the Sixth
International Conference on Late Modern English (LMEC 6) on August 17-19,
2017. The conference will accommodate full papers in general sessions and
themed workshops, in addition to plenaries. We invite you to submit
contributions that shed light on the theme of the conference, i.e. *Internal

Workshops: a total of two workshops can be scheduled (both on 18 August).

September 2016. Abstracts should be sent as e-mail attachments to the
conference e-mail address lmec6 at engelska.uu.se. Abstracts should not exceed
300 words (exclusive of references) and should clearly state research
questions, method, data, and (expected) results. Abstracts should be submitted

send a .pdf version. Notification of acceptance of abstracts will be sent out
by 15 November 2016.

This year the LINGUIST List hopes to raise $79,000. This money
will go to help keep the List running by supporting all of our
Student Editors for the coming year.

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Indiana University and
as such can receive donations through Indiana University Foundation. We
also collect donations via eLinguistics Foundation, a registered 501(c)
Non Profit organization with the federal tax number 45-4211155. Either
way, the donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your
state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the
IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that
they will match any gift you make to a non-profit organization.
Normally this entails your contacting your human resources department
and sending us a form that the Indiana University Foundation fills in
and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative
procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without
costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if
your company operates such a program.

Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
