Location: Storrs, CT, USA

Linguistic Field(s): Language Acquisition; Psycholinguistics; Syntax

Meeting Description:

We invite you to join us for the SynLinks (Links between representation and
processing in syntactic acquisition) workshop being held at the University of
Connecticut, in Storrs on September 17, 2016. This all-day workshop brings
together 6 experts who use a range of techniques to investigate syntactic
acquisition and build theories that recognize the links between children’s
developing representations and their developing processing abilities, as well
as the links between syntactic representations and other representations. Our
goal is to draw connections between syntactic theory, acquisition, and
processing theory more generally, and to foster broad group discussions that
move us forward in building an integrated theory of syntactic acquisition.
There will be 6 hour-long sessions of invited talks with short discussions as
well as two larger panel discussions: one during a catered lunch, and one
during a catered dinner (these working meals are free to all registered
attendees).

Invited speakers:
Misha Becker, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Kamil Deen, University of Hawaii at Manoa
Jeff Lidz, University of Maryland, College Park
Akira Omaki, University of Washington
Lisa Pearl, University of California, Irvine
Jesse Snedeker, Harvard University

Discussion panel leaders:
Diane Lillo-Martin, University of Connecticut, Storrs
William Snyder, University of Connecticut, Storrs

More details of the workshop can be found
at http://linguistics.uconn.edu/events/synlinks.html.

The workshop is free, but we do ask you to register by August 17 if you plan
to attend. This will allow us to plan for the discussion meals and other
refreshments.

We can offer limited crash space to graduate students (thanks to the graduate
students in the UConn Department of Linguistics). There is also a hotel on
campus that has offered a special rate of $144 per night for attendees. The
hotel cannot hold any rooms (we are too small), so please book asap. Details
are available on the workshop website.

Please support the LL editors and operation with a donation at:
            http://funddrive.linguistlist.org/donate/

This year the LINGUIST List hopes to raise $79,000. This money
will go to help keep the List running by supporting all of our
Student Editors for the coming year.

Don't forget to check out Fund Drive 2016 site!

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Indiana University and
as such can receive donations through Indiana University Foundation. We
also collect donations via eLinguistics Foundation, a registered 501(c)
Non Profit organization with the federal tax number 45-4211155. Either
way, the donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your
state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the
IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that
they will match any gift you make to a non-profit organization.
Normally this entails your contacting your human resources department
and sending us a form that the Indiana University Foundation fills in
and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative
procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without
costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if
your company operates such a program.

Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
