Description:

The Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities - Research Department “Variation
and Change of German in Austria” - at the Austrian Academy of Sciences is
looking for a new member for its team:

Research Associate (f/m)
100% (40 hours/week)

Length of the appointment:  initially for five years
Starting date: 1 September 2016

Your Tasks:

- Assistance in the central research areas of the research department
“Variation and Change of German in Austria”
- Editorial management of the working group “Dictionary of Bavarian Dialects
in Austria” (WBÖ) (including the text-technological reconceptualisation of the
dictionary)
- Coordination, organisation and communication tasks within the research
department (consisting of postdocs, predocs, non-scientific personnel, student
employees) as well as in cooperation with other working groups at the ACDH
- Organisation of project meetings (of different constellations and sizes),
conventions, conferences and symposia  
- Acquisition of third-party funding (independently and as part of the team)
- Obtaining an additional scientific qualification (habilitation or other
equivalent postdoctoral qualification)

Your Profile:

- Doctoral degree with excellent marks in the subject of German philology /
German studies with a main focus on German linguistics
- Research focus in one or more of the following areas (verifiable through
dissertation, project experience, final paper for a degree, publications,
etc.): variation linguistics, dialectology, lexicography, corpus linguistics 
- Actual or planned research project with great scientific relevance and
innovation within the field of variation linguistics as well as relevant to
the research department 
- Openness to the newest developments in the field of digital humanities
- Very good knowledge of German, very good knowledge of English

Desired Additional Qualifications:

- Experience in the conception and execution of research projects and/or
leading project tasks is of an advantage
- Experience in the area of text technology (digital humanities) is of an
advantage (especially in the area of scientific data management, web
technologies, visualisation of linguistic data)
- Research focus on (east) Upper German is of an advantage

Personal Requirements:

Leadership and management skills, teamwork, integration capacity,
independence, reliability, ability to work under pressure, flexibility
