Location: York, North Yorkshire, United Kingdom

Linguistic Field(s): Forensic Linguistics; Phonetics

Call Deadline: 18-Mar-2016

Meeting Description:

The 25th annual conference of the International Association for Forensic
Phonetics and Acoustics will be held on 24 - 27 July 2016 in York.

This year's conference is being run as part of the collaboration between the
University of York's Department of Language and Linguistic Science and J P
French Associates, Forensic Speech and Acoustics Laboratory.

The conference marks the 25th Anniversary of the official formation of (the
then) IAFP in York in 1991. IAFP blossomed from annual meetings of forensic
phonetic practitioners and interested academics in York from 1989 - 1991, with
the first official conference meeting taking place in York the year after its
inception. These early meetings took place with only a handful of members and
papers. Since then, IAFP has grown to over 120 members across both forensic
phonetics and acoustics (hence the addition of the latter 'A' to IAFPA). As
the silver anniversary, we hope to make this conference as involved,
forward-looking and dynamic as possible.

Confirmed keynote speakers are:

- Professor Peter French, Forensic expert and Professor of Forensic Speech
Science, J P French Associates & University of York
- Dr Tereza Neocleous, Lecturer in Forensic Statistics, University of Glasgow
- Dr Gillian Tully, Forensic Science Regulator, UK Home Office

Call for Papers:

Further information is provided at the conference website:
https://sites.google.com/a/york.ac.uk/iafpa-25/

Topics:

We invite proposals for papers on topics including, but not limited to:
- speaker/voice comparison
- speech and audio enhancement
- transcription
- speaker profiling
- questioned utterance analysis
- authentication of recordings
- LADO (Language analysis for the determination of origin)
- automatic speaker recognition/comparison
- voice line-ups
- retrieval of population data
- interesting case reports

Please note we will be giving strong preference to papers which present
research or issues which have not been previously presented at an IAFPA
conference, especially in the near past.

At IAFPA 2016 we plan four categories of paper:

(1) Regular oral papers
(2) Regular poster presentations
(3) Short oral papers. These papers consist of 3 minutes and 1 slide to
showcase an issue and invite discussion during the conference. These might be
suitable, for example, to outline new research ideas, casework problems, new
or desired data, or software development
(4) Work in progress poster presentations. This is a special poster session to
outline new or ongoing research developments, particularly suitable for
students currently working on dissertations

Abstract submission is now open. Authors may submit multiple abstracts, but
are asked to nominate their preferred category of paper. Please submit
abstracts via Easy Chair (registration/login required) using the link below.

The deadline for submissions under categories (1), (2) and (3) is 18 March
2016. Note that we do not expect to extend this deadline. Submissions under
category (4) may be made up to 1 July 2016.
