Description:

Full time, 3-year position
Deadline 11:55pm AEST Sunday 17 April 2016 (or until filled)
Start Date: Available starting June 1, 2016

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Child Language
Lab at Macquarie University (Sydney).

The Lab is located in the Australian Hearing Hub with state-of the art EEG,
MEG, infant speech perception, eye-tracking, and language production research
facilities.

Project

This position is funded as part of a 5-year Australian Research Council (ARC)
Laureate Fellowship award to Professor Katherine Demuth for examining 'Neural
and behavioural evidence for children's learning of grammatical morphology'.
The goal is to better understand the nature of children’s phonological and
morphological representations, and how these develop between the ages of 1-12.
The project brings together researchers from a wide range of disciplines with
the common purpose of addressing issues related to speech and language
perception, production and processing in typically developing monolingual and
bilingual children, as well as children with hearing loss.

For those working on projects involving neuro-imaging, previous experience in
designing and conducting ERP/EEG experiments exploring aspects of language
processing, including N400 and P600 effects, is essential. Experiments using
MEG are also welcome.

For those working on behavioural projects, previous experience in designing
and conducting experiments in the areas of language processing using
eye-tracking, language comprehension/perception, and/or language production is
essential.

The successful applicant will lead research in one of the above areas,
including designing and running experiments, writing up and presenting
results, supervising graduate and undergraduate student projects, and helping
to recruit participants. Involvement in some organizational and management
aspects of the lab is also expected.
