Meeting Description:

Content and language integrated learning (CLIL) education is fast becoming one
of the most preferred approaches for language learning. CLIL incorporates
content, language, culture, as well as learning processes within its
framework. In Spain, CLIL is used in a variety of settings, and educational
levels.

The conference theme addresses practical approaches to CLIL. The aim of the
institute is to bring together local and international teachers, researchers
and curriculum designers working in the area of CLIL and CLIL-related programs
to share how they approach the incorporation of CLIL into their schools and
educational settings.

The First DEAiA Spring Institute will be held 19-20th May, 2016 at the
Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) in Tarragona.

The language of the conference is English.

Keynote speakers:

Holly Hansen-Thomas (Texas Woman’s University, USA)
Gerard Bros (Universitat Jaume I, Spain)

Call for Papers:

We welcome proposals (for paper or poster presentations) that report on
projects on any educational level (preschool, primary, secondary,
upper-secondary, university), in the context of any subject (humanities,
science, the Arts, technology, etc), and from any part of the world.
The Spring Institute will also feature a presentation on Functional Language
Awareness in CLIL.

The primary objective of this presentation will be to illustrate how
identifying language functions and using language awareness can help CLIL
teachers better promote academic language in English. Use of functional
language awareness is one way to facilitate academic language development in
the target language.

We invite the submission of abstracts of no more than 300 words (plus
references) for 30-minute presentations (20 + 10 for discussion). Abstracts
must be anonymous, in a font size no less than 12pt and written in English.

Please indicate whether you would like to present a poster or a paper, and
whether you would like to be considered for the special workshop on Functional
Language Awareness.
