Description:

The School of Languages and Cultures wishes to recruit a Lecturer in Applied
Languages from 1 September 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Applied Languages Section of the School of Languages and Cultures has an
excellent reputation for the quality and innovation of its teaching.  Staff
have a range of research interests in intercultural  communication,
translation and screen translation and are active participants in the School’s
wide range of research clusters. Our MA degrees attract high numbers of
applicants placing us amongst the University’s top recruiters. 

The post-holder will contribute to teaching across these programmes as well as
developing undergraduate teaching in applied language areas including
intercultural communication and translation studies to form links between our
undergraduate and postgraduate curricula.  The successful applicant will
engage in high quality research activity, undertake administrative duties,
supervise PhD students as appropriate, and contribute fully to the life of the
School commensurate with their grade.

You will have a PhD in Applied Languages or a related subject area (or have
equivalent experience), proven teaching and leadership ability and the
capacity to carry out high-quality research and to disseminate research
findings effectively.  Near-native level of proficiency in two languages, one
of which must be English and the ability to supervise and monitor the work of
research students is essential.

It is anticipated that interviews and other selection action will be held in
the week commencing 16 May 2016.
